What got me here, where have I been and where do I want to end up.
Hey, Friends of the Fish,
It’s Savannah here. Feish and I thought it would be nice to write a blog post on ourselves
so that whatever kinda eye is checking out the page can get to know us a little bit better.
So, the creative side of my life. What got me here, where have I been and where do I
want to end up.
What got me here?
It all starting when I was probably around 10 years old and my dad would be channel surfing and end up settling on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I would watch as Ty Pennington and his team would rebuild a whole house in 7 days, changing a family who really needed its life. Savannah’s 10-year-old mind would look at this and think “I want to become an architect” this always makes me laugh because I really didn’t want to be an architect, what I wanted to do was create a positive change in people's lives who needed
it like Ty and his team did.
What I learned, later on, is that I hated math and that there were other ways to help people other than rebuilding a house in 7 days.
After taking design as a subject in high school and having the privilege of being taught
by one of my greatest mentors, Irma Sargent. I ended up studying a BA in visual communications majoring in Art Direction at the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography. My studies ended and I landed a dream job. Art Directing at MALideas4good. This is what has taken up most of my time until now. Look, a lot has happened in between, small jobs, projects, and side hustles but this is the important stuff.
To cut to the chase, who I am as a creative is an inventor. This is truly what I love. The small Savannah sitting in front of the tv knew something from the start, she wanting to do good, for the world and others. I am proud of this drive I have to create good in the world, I am thankful that I can use creativity to do so. I will continue to work with people who share this goal, connect learn and push to make the world a better place. You can’t not love the “I wanna save the world” Millennial mentality. As I always say, somebody has got to do it?
This all hits the point of where have I been.
The last point to hit is, where do I want to end up going?
Well, starting your own business is pretty rad. It isn’t easy, at all.
It is scary but the possibilities are endless. I plan to get fisheye to be completely remote allowing me to live in the places that bring me the most joy. I plan to keep writing down my ideas that aim to make the world a better place in my notebook and keep my eyes out for people who will help me make them happen. I plan to keep creating work through
an ethical and sustainable lens and I definitely plan to have a heap of fun doing it.
When I am not creating I am usually trail running, hanging out in nature, doing some yoga, or on camping adventures with friends. The other parts of me which I LOVE.
That’s it for now, thanks for keeping an eye on me!
